The Design Challenge
Incase needed a premium, travel-ready over-ear headphone with active noise cancellation targeting a $300 price point. The key objective was creating a collapsible, one-size-fits-all architecture that hid moving mechanical parts and cable routing—all while ensuring long-wear memory foam comfort and compact stowability in a custom travel case.
The Design Solution
Starting with broad architectural ideation across ten distinct folding concepts, we optimized the headphone's ergonomics and usage without compromising brand identity. The final design delivers a minimal, hardware-free silhouette that conceals all moving mechanical parts, complemented by a signature two-tone color treatment and an intuitive folding mechanism. Key technical details include dedicated left/right sound directionality, a removable cable, and leatherette-covered memory foam earcups for comfort and sound isolation.
